Structure of Individualized Consultations

Once initial behavioral assessments are completed, which may take approximately 2-5 sessions, your behavior consultant will conduct weekly in-home consultations. These consultations will be scheduled during the times your child typically demosntrates the concerning behavior. Your consultant will coach you through the steps of the behavior plan as natural opportunities present. These opportunities may be practiced via role play or in some situations, opportunities may be set up. On occasion, your behavioral consultant may model the plan; however, we find it most beneficial for parents to practice the steps rather than the consultants carrying out the behavior plan.

Parents will be provided with feedback on implementation. Data collection training and analysis will take place in between behavioral plan practice.

A portion of the consultation will be used to provide parents with direct instruction on behavioral concepts. Understanding of concepts may be measured by short quizzes and other demonstrations of knowledge.

Monthly Topic Specific Group Workshops

On a monthly basis one of our Board Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBA) holds a topic based 1-2 hour workshop. These 1-2 hour workshops are held in the evening and childcare is provided by trained behavioral therapists. Parents/caregivers and families of clients receiving any of our services are welcome to attend for free. Topics vary from month to month and some more popular topics are repeated more than once a year as requested. Preparation for these presentations always involve a review of current research and is founded in basic applied behavioral principles. The information, however; is presented to parents and caregivers in a very user-friendly format with the use of limited professional terminology that might overwhelm parents and caregivers. Positive behavioral strategies that are developmentally appropriate are presented.

Topics Include:

  • Increasing Food Selection

  • Increasing Cooperation

  • Toilet Training 101

  • Understanding Autism

  • Coping with Holiday Stress

  • Incorporating Learning into Play

  • Routines and Schedules

  • Maladaptive Behaviors

  • Improving Communication

  • Improving Social Interaction Skills

  • Addressing Eating and Feeding Problems

  • Promoting Healthy Sleep

  • Working with Your Child’s School
